What we check before clearing a drain
The visible symptom is not always where the blockage sits. A slow toilet may be a local pan obstruction, several slow appliances can point to a shared branch, and an overflowing inspection chamber may indicate a restriction farther along the run. Asking which fixtures are affected prevents wasted work.
We also check safe access, the direction of flow and whether the problem may sit on a shared or public sewer. That matters because the correct next step can change depending on where responsibility lies.
- Which fixtures and chambers are affected
- Whether the problem is isolated or property-wide
- Accessible rodding points and inspection chambers
- Signs of displacement, roots or structural damage
